About Dr. Godwin Uzomba

Dr. Uzomba comes to Ballantyne Medical Associates with over 25 years of experience in Internal Medicine & Endocrinology. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Medical Specialties and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Endocrinology. He is licensed in both North and South Carolina. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Alabama, Birmingham in pre-med and attended Universidad Central Del Este, in the Dominican Republic, where he obtained his doctor of medicine degree. He completed his post-graduate training at Meharry Medical College and Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. Upon completion of his postgraduate training in 1999, he moved to Charlotte, North Carolina and began his private practice in Internal Medicine & Endocrinology.

His area of clinical interest is in Cardiovascular Metabolism. Dr. Uzomba has a keen understanding of the homeostatic markers which are correlated to the autonomic and vascular systems and their influence on target organ dysfunction in patients at risk for cardiometabolic disease. Employing individualized cardiovascular risk scores, based on these markers, in collaboration with biologic and conventional risk factors, strengthens and improves the diagnosis, risk stratification, treatment guidelines and follow up on therapeutic interventions that are targeted to those core organ defects in this at-risk patient population.

His professional memberships include the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, Endocrine Society and the American College of Physicians.

We strongly believe that bringing Dr. Uzomba on board at Ballantyne Medical Associates will allow us to provide enhanced and elaborate individualized cardiovascular risk stratification of all of our patients at risk for cardiometabolic disease. This will not only allow us to identify cardiovascular metabolic disease at its earliest development but also allow us to identify patients who are predisposed to its development before disease occurs. We can then better collaborate with our patients to begin beneficial lifestyle modifications, enhanced nutrition, and if needed, pharmacotherapy to decrease their personal risk of heart attack, stroke, kidney disease, and peripheral artery disease.

It has always been our intention and practice to treat above and beyond the standard of care and this partnership agreement will further advance that philosophy.

In his spare time, Dr. Uzomba enjoys spending quality time with his wife and four children and watching sports such as football, soccer and hockey.
